Christmas customs in its most beautiful form - 12 handmade cribs lovingly embedded in the town hall park.
There have been Christmas nativity scenes for more than 1,500 years, and in Austria itself the construction of nativity scenes has a long tradition, which is honoured accordingly on the Nativity Trail of the Vienna Christmas Dream.Following the success of the previous year, in which old Viennese nativity scene exhibits adorned the park, this year's exhibition is entitled "Italian nativity scenes". Twelve handcrafted works of art show the birth of Christ in the midst of Italian everyday life and the poverty of the people living there. A leisurely stroll invites you to discover the detailed depictions and the great precession of the exhibits. All exhibits are provided by the Vienna Nativity Scene Association, which has produced up to seventy Nativity scenes annually since 2001. A tree - 200 shining hearts - thousands of shining faces. This popular symbol of love and Christmas will once again illuminate the Rathauspark this year.
Last year, Mayor Michael Ludwig made a comeback of the symbolic "Herzerlbaum". The maple-leaved plane tree, adorned with 200 glowing hearts, is once again a fixed component of the Vienna Christmas Dream and this year it will shine as a popular photo motif and romantic hotspot for all visitors to Rathausplatz and far beyond.
