Where can the Christmas period be experienced more atmospherically than in the centre of Vienna. Before the dreamlike backdrop of the City Hall, the aroma of fine delicacies mixes with the voices and laughter of the people who, together with their loved ones, enjoy moments of joy and a hearty togetherness. The Viennese Christmas Dream - the magical winter fable makes advent into a unique experience!
The Vienna Christmas Dream in front of the city hall is one of the most beloved and famous meeting points at Christmas time. Last year, about 3.5 million people from all around the world came to visit the traditional Christmas market, see the atmospheric Christmas world in the park and ice skate at the Little Ice Dream.
This year, the Vienna Christmas Dream shall charm everyone with its bright lights, colours and countless attractions for young and old once again: Stroll along the path of nativity scenes, join the popular arts & crafts in the Volkshalle with your children or simply enjoy the sounds of Christmas and warming delicacies at the stalls – there is something for everyone to delight in.
I wish your Christmas time to be tranquil, romantic and entertaining and hope your time spent at the Vienna Christmas Dream is filled with joy!
Yours sincerely, Michael Ludwig
Mayor and Governor of Vienna
Vienna without the Christmas Dream would be like a romantic film without a happy end. At Christmas time the City Hall Square and all of Vienna are steeped in a unique atmosphere. Glittering lights, fragrant chestnuts and the historic flair enchant visitors from Austria and abroad.
But what would the Vienna Christmas Dream be without the efforts of our entrepreneurs? It is thanks to them and their decorated stalls that the City Hall Square looks Christmassy and shortens our waiting time for Christmas Eve. Thanks to them, the special mood can be felt in the entire city: Vienna’s shopping streets are filled with festive showcases, ideas for presents are supplied by high-end products and services, whilst cosy punch stalls invite weary shoppers to rest after successful shopping tours.
Theodor Storm said that Christmas was always the most beautiful holiday to him. In this spirit I wish you a tranquil Christmas and a great time at the Vienna Christmas Dream!
Warm regards, Walter Ruck
President of Vienna’s Economic Chambers
